FAQ

What is "wrestling"?

Think high school or college wrestling, not WWE. It's what you'd see in the Olympics. Wrestling is a series of takedowns, positional dominance, and the ultimate goal of a pin. The movements are very explosive. If you’ve ever wanted to get into superior shape, this will get you there while improving your grappling game.

What ages can participate in wrestling?

USA Wrestling sanctions tournaments for boys and girls from age 7 to past college age. Delta Training Center will offer a USA Wrestling sanctioned club for boys and girls from ages 7-18.

Is competition in wrestling tournaments required?

No, competing in tournaments is not required to participate in the wrestling program. Competition can be fun, a way to show how your technique and preparation compare against your peers. However, growth on the mat and having fun are really the goals of wrestling!

Can girls wrestle too?

Absolutely! Women’s wrestling has been an Olympic sport since 2004. In 2022, the NCAA named Women’s Wrestling as an “Emerging Sport", while the NAIA already has regards it as a championship sport. Over 150 colleges and universities sponsor a women’s wrestling team, and 45 states have a sanctioned championship for girls. Starting in 2025, LHSAA sanctioned Girls Wrestling as a varsity sport.

How do weight classes work?

Tournaments are formatted by grouping wrestlers of similar age and weight classes in a bracket. In order to participate in a weight the class, the wrestler must weigh in lower than the stated weight class. The weight classes available vary with each age group, taking into account growth with age.
